FAQ
Common questions about New Horizons RVs and trailors
1. Does New Horizons have any dealers?
New Horizons RV does not have any dealers, we are factory direct. All New Horizons are built to order for each customer.
2. Where can we see a New Horizons RV?
You may visit our manufacturing facility located in Junction City, KS. We generally have eight to twelve models in various stages of production. You could also meet with an Ambassador as they travel the country or come see us at a near by RV show.
3. Does New Horizons go to any RV shows?
Attending RV shows is a great way to show off our trailers and we plan to attend a variety of them this year. Come see us at a near by RV show.
4. How is warranty work handled?
Horizons backs up the skill and quality that were put into each RV with a 2 year “Hitch to Bumper” warranty plus a 5 year warranty on our frame. The quality of the materials we use and our skilled workers helps to reduce the need for warranty repairs. When there is a problem we like to see it corrected as quickly as possible with as little inconvenience as possible. We would like to do the repair here at our facility, if possible, but in the instances where this is not possible arrangements will be made to have the repair done at a facility in your area. The owner can choose to have work done where they think best. We ask that the service center call us and we will do the following: Authorize direct bill so the owner does not have to pay: Help the service facility analyze the problem; and tell how to fix it. It is the best warranty in the business!
5. What type of construction are the walls?
The walls, floor, and roof are constructed using a pressure rolled laminate construction. This is where the layers of the wall consisting of the exterior fiberglass, structural frame work, foam insulation and interior wall panel are assembled, glued and pressure rolled to form the walls. The structural frame work of the walls, floor, and roof is built using tubular aluminum.
6. What is the R-factor of the walls?
The insulation material that is used in the construction of a New Horizons is a 1 1/2” closed cell rigid foam that is often used in the construction of walk-in freezers and coolers. This material has an R-rating of eight and when combined with the materials to build the walls we have conservatively estimated the R-factor to be around 9 to 11 with the roof and floors even higher.
7. How do the slide-outs work?
The slide-out mechanism is a worm driven arm with a chain driven system to synchronize the arm action for simultaneous motion. They are operated by a 12 volt motor.
8. Do we have to come to Horizons to order?
We always enjoy working with our customers on a one to one basis during the order process, but with all the avenues of communication available today, it is not absolutely necessary.
9. What are the tour hours?
New Horizons RV is open for plant tours Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday tours are available upon special request.
10. Where is the nearest airport to Horizons?
We recommend that you fly into Kansas City International Airport and take a rental car to our facility. It is approximately a two hour drive west on interstate highway I-70. There are other airports closer such as Manhattan and Salina, but they will be slightly more expensive.
11. How long does it take to get a New Horizons?
The delivery time changes with the number of orders we have, but we suggest that you place your order a minimum of 3 months before you plan to take delivery.
12. What does customizing mean?
We have floor plans of fifth wheels that we have built from which you may choose. We can mix and match different parts of floor plans or design a floor plan from scratch to suit your needs and wants. All the floor plans include our standard features, as well as the electrical, plumbing and interior furnishings that you would normally expect to find in a fifth wheel.
13. Can we get something that is not on the options list?
Even though it is not listed on our options list, we probably can install it.
14. Picking up your New Horizons.
Upon arriving we will instruct you on the use and operation of your fifth wheel. There are hook ups next to our facility so that you may spend one to two days here getting familiar with the operation of the systems. If you are having us install the hitch and brake control, we can do it at this time. Installing the hitch and brake control normally takes around four hours. If you would like, someone can go with you on a short test drive and give you some basic towing instructions. Following this, we encourage you to spend a day or two at a nearby lake (weather permitting) to give all the systems a trial run.
15. What is the approximate weight of personal cargo?
Following is what might be a logical personal cargo that a full timer might carry. It is if anything on the heavy side. Most RVers do not carry a full tank of fresh water or any water in their holding tanks.
